Sound System Podcast #21

August 16, 2007

Oh dear God. Well it had to happen at some stage. We’ve completely lost the plot. Well, we haven’t REALLY lost the plot but you’d be forgiven for thinking so when you get to the last five minutes of the podcast. Recorded last night, we’re back with the 21st Sound System Podcast for KilkennyMusic.com where we’re recapping the Battle Of The Bands, chatting about The Aftermath, recording an EP in France, strange internet happenings and loads more.

You’ll get music from

and the track to end all tracks… a KilkennyMusic.com staff offering. This is absolutely unscripted and totally unprepared. We’ve got Daw on guitar and myself (Ken), Mickey and Ross trying to come up with a song. I think we even surprised ourselves.

Have a listen and be sure and tell us what you think!!!

Alright lads just have a few comments for ye! Im one of the people out of one of the bands who where in botb! i was listening to this podcast today and to be honest ye sound like ye dont have a clue at all! Ye dont even know what ye are talking about when ye bring up the subject of the botb and ye always slide of the subject and forget to come back to it! If ye where any good as judges (ha ha) ye would know all yer info on the bands and what there names where and who played when and where but to be honest! ye just sound like a pack of waisters who have never gotten anywhere with the music scene and are stuck in what ye think great kilkennymusic.com judging all the bands! how can you judge when you cant even remember anything about the bands! Why dont ye get some proper judges next year and all of your bullshit kilkennymusic.com judges can go off and get wasted like ye usually do and forget about doing the whole judging thing!

    Brian,

Its obvious you’re annoyed about the Battle Of The Bands which is fine, you’re perfectly titled to your opinion. However, why don’t you come down to The Zoo on the day of the final and talk about it with us? We don’t hide behind a website and always make ourselves available to bands and arts acts for discussion so if you’ve a problem, we’re more than glad to see down with you and hear what you really think.

The reason we’re skimming the Battle Of The Bands on the podcast, or have been until now, is that the competition is still running. You for one were involved in a series of comments left on Ross’ staff blog which left some bad taste and prompted us not to go into in depth discussion about the bands given reactions it might cause during the competition. We’re doing a full BOTB podcast after the final, so why don’t you join us for it, seen as you’ve got so much criticism you’d like to point at the judges?

I was involved as a judge myself last year alongside Alan Lennon and Andrew McGuinness - didn’t hear any complaints then. If your issue is with the BOTB then bring it to the organisers, if your issue is with KilkennyMusic.com, myself, or any of the other judges then come directly to us. Judging the BOTB is no easy task, we’re giving a young band a near €3,500 boost and we want to make sure that the right band wins out on the day. If you’re disappointed because the band you’re connected to didn’t get through then come back again next year - we may be involved in the competition, we may not, it might take a completely different structure - but the point is to come back and prove to the judges, the sponsors, the organisers and the general music scene in Kilkenny that you’re capable of winning the competition.

The upcoming podcast (#22) discusses BOTB again where we mention that we’ve got notes both good and bad on all the bands, if you want to review them or sit down with us to get our opinion then we’re more than happy to accommodate you.

If you knew what actually goes on behind the KKM name then you’d also know that we know a lot more about the bands who have played, when and where they have played, than you might actually imagine.

    All the best,

    Ken

[…] I got an email off Ken this morning to check out a comment on Sound System Podcast 21. The comment was left under the username Briain and was a bitter little rant in relation to myself, Daw, Ken and Boo judging this years Battle of the Bands. Every year, some people end up unhappy after the competition, in this case Briain is a member of one of the bands who didn’t make it through the heats to the final. Ken has already left a suitable reply and Daw has started a thread on the forums in reponse to his remarks, but I’d also like to give him some information to think about. Here’s what Briain had to say; […]

okay its me again okay Ken i totally agree! i was being a little prick last night and really wasnt thinking! i relize how much effort ye put into all of yer work in botb! Just to let you know i wasnt pissed off at the fact we didnt get threw! I was just in one of those moods! And to be honest i am truly sorry! I should not of wrote what i did last night! It was stupid and imature of me! I know what i have done was very wrong and i should not of made my argument so drastic as i did and if i was going to make an argument i should of done more research on it! Im really sorry for what i have caused! And im not saying this to ye becasue im afraid teratoria will be hated and what not its becasue i actually sat down and read what ye had to say! to be honest i didnt think when i was saying what i did! and i really do hope you could in anyway forgive my lousy actions! Im not a lick arss but i really do hope ye can forgive me and not take it out on teratoira because from what i have said could of ruined my bands mate chances of getting anywhere and i dont want that to happen over what i have done!

  8. steven on September 4th, 2007 5:43 pm

is it true teratoria are blacklisted in venues around ireland?????????? there is rumours going sround that they are, i’d just like to find out if its true. and could i get a reply from someone from kkm not just some guy who heard it on the street?

  9. KilkennyMusic.com on September 4th, 2007 5:56 pm

Steven, if you heard the rumour, it certainly didn’t originate at KKM.
