Sound System Podcast #34
November 29, 2007
Well, we’re back again. This one seemed to go on a little longer than usual but then such is the case with some surprise topics of conversation.
Who’d have thought that Dolly Parton would wind up playing in Kilkenny in 2008?
We’re looking back at events in Wicklow from Saturday, gigs last week and this week and finally getting around to bringing up some notes on people’s favourite video games (via the forums).
There’s music from
- Carnival - ‘Andy’s 15′
- Jester - ‘Scream’
- Karen Hegarty - ‘No Lullaby’
- Stoned Developments - ‘Casual Murder’
Don’t forget, if you’re around Kilkenny on Thursday the 6th, we’ve the final One Take Sessions of 2007, again recording live for show #36. But until #35,
Take it easy.

A One Take Sessions special awaits you this week as we recap the ‘Sessions from last Thursday night (Thursday November 15th).
As the ‘Sessions go, this was one of my (Ken) favourite nights so far anyway; nice to have Jimi Cullen back yet again but great too in seeing new acts appearing in the form of West Of Eden and Ro Tierney (with Robbie).
We’ve got music from the three acts on the night
- West Of Eden - ‘A Lover’s Trick’
- Jimi Cullen - ‘The Realistic Love Song’
- Ro Tierney - ‘Tics & Politics’
- Ro Tierney - ‘Sing For The Children’ (Bonus)
A bonus?
Well, we had to keep to the whole “4 acts, 4 tracks” thing that we’ve got going for the ‘Sessions and although the 4th act didn’t make it on the night we plucked Ro Tierney’s encore track ‘Sing For The Children’ to close out the podcast.
There’s also the usual light banter, upcoming gigs and whatnot so if you missed the ‘Sessions and want to check out three damn fine acts then give it a listen.
Until #34,
Later.
Sound System Podcast #32
November 14, 2007
The 32nd show arrives with myself (Ken) and Ross on the mic once again looking at gig goings on this week in Kilkenny, the upcoming ArtLinks launch, the One Take Sessions tomorrow night (Thursday November 15th) and some strange facts which cause me - for some unknown reason - to break down in laughter.
Wonders will never cease.
We’ve also got music from
- Fiach - ‘How The River Flows’
- Abaddon Incarnate - ‘Nihilist’
- Von Bizmark - ‘Eyes Drift Down’
- Chemical Addiction - ‘Brian Jones’
That Chemical Addiction track? A Sound System Podcast exclusive - remember where you heard it first!
Want to give us some tracks for the podcast? Drop into the One Take Sessions in Cleere’s Theatre tomorrow night to catch Jimi Cullen, West Of Eden, Ro Tierney and Dave Nolan - we’ll be there and always up for the chat.
Until #33,
Take it easy.
Sound System Podcast #31
November 9, 2007
We’ll we’ve broken the milestone and gone on towards podcast number 37, ultimately podcast number 237, but for now you’ve to put up with show #31.
We’ve got chat about the upcoming Vesta Varro / Frantic State gig (at time of publishing Frantic State have now withdrawn… balls); talk about the recent metal weekend in Kilkenny that saw acts from Slovakia and Malta visit town; there’s the usual gigs, some news from the local arts scene and more.
Of course, there’s music and this week we have
- Abysmal Torment - ‘Befouled With Zest’
- Vesta Varro - ‘Headlights’
- Frantic State - ‘Only Human’
- Peter Mulvey - ‘If Love Is Not Enough’
Listen to the podcast and you’ll hear we’re giving away tickets (worth 15 bucks each) to go see Peter Mulvey in a week’s time in Kilkenny - but you’ll have to listen to find out how to get the tickets, at least for now anyway!
Go on, away with you and download show #31!
Sound System Podcast #30
November 1, 2007
We’re back with the 30th Sound System Podcast, a new milestone in terms of Sound System, and it’s a One Take Sessions special. Four acts, four tracks (though the phrase wasn’t uttered last night, it’s been that long since we had a dedicated ‘Sessions podcast) and it’s all good!
- Eamonn O’Connor (his politically charged song)
- Emer Dunne - ‘Entice Me’
- Diarmuid Comerford - ‘Kyoto’
- Jimmy Trigger - ‘The Urge’
There’s some light banter around the tunes on this one but you’re in for a half hour featuring four more great acts from the One Take Sessions which took place in Cleere’s last Thursday night (October 25th.).
We “return to abnormality” next week with show number 31 so until then,
Peace.
