Sound System Podcast #65
November 13, 2008
It’s a day late and a buck short (as in co-host) for the 65th Sound System Podcast as we have a short and sweet one in the run up to the the weekend which will ultimately see a break for the podcast.
Likewise with the Playlist Mix, the Sound System Podcast is going to take a two week break as I’m (Ken) off for two weeks. With production building up around Vultures for Ross, Daw in the studio, Mickey in college and myself out of the country it seems high time to take an actual planned break, for two weeks, with the podcast set to return on Wednesday December 3rd.
While it’s short and snappy there’s also music from Halves, House Of Cosy Cushions (both of whom play Kilkenny this weekend), the new single from Heritage Centre and a new release (long overdue a podcast play) from 6 Feet Or Above Ground.
So, no Ross in this week’s podcast, just a half hour dose of Ken along with the afore mentioned music. The new Heritage Centre single is out December 5th so we should have some more details on the next podcast.
As we won’t be back until December, enjoy this one while it lasts.

[By the way, the track you’re hearing underneath is ‘Pull It Out’ from The Lions Mane. Check them out here on MySpace]
Sound System Podcast #64
November 5, 2008
We’re back, and we’re a week late. We know it, and we’re sorry. But we’ve been busy (notice it’s been a bit quiet around the site this week!)
Juggling a few theatre things, a few music things and hectic work schedules in and out of the studio and office, we’ve managed to sit down and finally record the 64th Sound System Podcast. And yes, it’s a One Take Sessions special.
As such, you’re treated to tracks from Ginosko, Little Black Wren and a double helping of Kildare’s Chayka.
We’ll be putting a shape on things online tomorrow with plenty of news updates to come but in the mean time, check out the podcast. We’ve a look back to War Of The Worlds, upcoming gigs, some interesting facts on the Kama Sutra, you’ll find out what Tokyo Challenge really is, get the lowdown on some Vultures updates and plenty more.
Sound System Podcast #63

The 63rd Sound System Podcast has touched down at KilkennyMusic.com, bringing with it music from Ian Whitty & The Exchange (featured as VOTD earlier this week), Enda Reilly, For Enemies Of Reason and Pot Hole.
Tracks in full are as follows…
- Ian Whitty & The Exchange - ‘Not On Your Side’
- Enda Reilly - ‘Oxygen 21′
- For Enemies Of Reason - ‘Falling Pieces’
- Pot Hole - ‘Mean To Me’
There’s also the usual banter and chat, a look at upcoming gigs, Rockfall this weekend, band news where we’ve got it and loads more.
Don’t forget that this weekend sees the 20th Rockfall Festival (annual) take place in Kilkenny with gigs from tomorrow (Thursday) through to Monday. We’ve also got the One Take Sessions, The Lions Mane, the return of Trainspotting and loads more. But sure all of that’s in the podcast, listen now!
Sound System Podcast #62
October 15, 2008
It’s the week after the Irish Web Awards and Ken managed to get himself picked as Best Podcaster for the Playlist Mix. Ross managed to find himself in a Devious Theatre radio ad and rustling up some new promo posters. Saving J managed to find themselves on the new Hotpress / Oxjam CD released next month. Atrax Mantis managed to get their new EP delivered and in the hands of the fans.
And a whole lot more.
We’re back with show 62, plenty of talk in the aftermath of the 2008 Irish Web Awards, the upcoming production of ‘The War Of The Worlds’ by The Devious Theatre Company, Rockfall, Slave Zero, Atrax Mantis, The Lions Mane, the One Take Sessions and lots more besides.
There’s also music from
- Saving J - Kick Off
- Chaplin - Swings And Roundabouts
- Atrax Mantis - Condemned To Hatred
- The Lions Mane - Unwanted Child
Leave your feedback on the podcast by dropping a comment below or emailing the studio on podcast AT kilkennymusic DOT com. You can also submit your tracks for inclusion on the show by sending MP3s (not WMAs or Windows Media files) to the same email.
Until next week,
Take it easy.
Sound System Podcast #61
October 10, 2008
We’re back. At long bloody last. Seriously. We’re two days late with the podcast show, it’s been sitting in ProTools since Wednesday evening but thanks largely in part to
- Forgetting it was a One Take Sessions special and subsequently forgetting to pick up the OTS tracks and
- Starting work on The War of the Worlds with The Devious Theatre Company.
However, we still say better late than never and so two days later than usual we present the 61st Sound System Podcast. There are indeed four tracks from last week’s One Take Sessions featuring Jimi Cullen, Nick Day, Michael Whelan and Ian Doyle while there’s plenty of chatter about a multitude of things, including settling scores with Messrs Doyle and Byrne at the 2008 Moviestar.ie Irish Web Awards taking place tomorrow night (Saturday) in Dublin.
We’ll be there as we’ve found ourselves nominated in the ‘Best Music’ category (wooooo!) so myself and Ross are making the trip up for the session, pissup, awards ceremony.
Enjoy ![]()
Sound System Podcast #60
October 1, 2008
Another landmark podcast for KilkennyMusic.com as we finally, finally, reach show #60. Plenty of content for you this week with myself and Ross skiving off to Galway on a pre-planned whim on Monday night to catch Cut The Reins, 20 Bulls Each, Only Fumes And Corpses, The Lobotomies and Richmond punks Strike Anywhere in action in Cuba (upstairs venue).
Along with the road trip we’ve got plenty of useless internet facts, news on the One Take Sessions, a quick look back to PodCamp, gigs this weekend and more besides. If you don’t know anything about punk music then tonight’s playlist is going to be a bit of an education as we’ve music from four of the five bands above (no track from Galway hardcore outfit Cut The Reins).
On that note, enjoy the podcast and don’t forget that if you want to get involved, email us or send a mail to the studio on podcast [at] kilkennymusic.com and we’ll talk turkey. Or business. Or business turkey.
Later.
Sound System Podcast #59
September 24, 2008
Muckers. Farmers. Battles. Bands. Kilkenny gigs. Out of town gigs. Ticket refunds. Festivals. Unhappy campers. Funny musicians. Carlow musicians. Politically charged songs. Rare birds.
Its all on this week’s podcast.
We’re onto 59, we’ve a new look website, some highlights (finally) from the September 11th One Take Sessions (nothing to do with “September 11th”) and a whole load of chat about the 2008 Battle Of The Bands Finals. Again, congratulations to the two winners on the day, South (overall winner) and Kerbstomp (runner up).
We’ve no song titles for you but you’ve got two tracks from Hamlet Sweeney and one each from Peter Brabazon and Joe Cleere.
So much to talk about and so little (49 minutes) time.
Until next week.
Enjoy.
Sound System Podcast #58
September 17, 2008
We’re back, with what is supposed to be the birthday podcast and a One Take Sessions special. Alas, there’s neither beer nor tracks from last week’s ‘Sessions, both of which will have to wait until next week.
We do, however, have a lot of talk about and focus on the Battle Of The Bands final which takes place this Sunday. As a result, and in place of One Take Sessions tracks for the week, we’re taking music from the four finalists with a track from each of Teratoria, Decadation, South and Kerbstomp. The tracklisting is as follows…
- Decadation - ‘Retribution’
- Kerbstomp - ‘Now At The Hour Of Your Death’
- Teratoria - ‘Floating Stones’
- South - ‘Symmetry’
Next week there’ll be birthday talk, ‘Sessions tracks (hopefully) and a new look website to match. All in a day’s work I tell you, all in a day’s work.
Sound System Podcast #57
September 11, 2008
We’re back… almost 24 hours later than anticipated as we’re literally running out the door for tonight’s One Take Sessions. Plenty of chatter to be had as we look at the Battle Of The Bands, changes for the birthday, some local band and gig news and our usual four track selection - this week featuring Hamlet Sweeney (on stage at tonight’s One Take Sessions), Vesta Varro (appearing next week), Scuba Dice (touring for the month) and Atrax Mantis (launching their EP this weekend!)
Plenty to hear and do!
Anyway, enjoy this week’s strange episode of music and talk from KilkennyMusic.com
Sound System Podcast #56
September 3, 2008
In the immortal words of Miley Byrne… “well, holy God”. The Sound System Podcast is back, and back with some kind of a flurry of news and activity.
You see, we think we’re quiet, but secretly we know we’re not. We’ve just come off three and a half crazy-hectic months of the summer with tours around the country, gigs, videos, roadtrips (can’t believe we forgot to mention the roadtrip), more gigs, festivals, recording EPs, starting an artists agency, starting a new PR firm… and now, we think we’re quiet. But the wheels keep turning.
That said - we just had to bring the podcast back. It’s been too long since our last show and we’re getting back into the weekly swing of things, keeping Wednesday free once again for the return of the podcast.
This week, amongst all the banter for you, there’s also tracks from Parhelia, Saving J, Myp Et Jeep and The Lions Mane along with a speedy recap of the summer and previously mentioned activities.
We’re getting our feet back on the ground but it’s good to be back… enjoy this week’s podcast and we’ll catch up with you next week.
